Patricia got tickets for me and Gabrielle to go to Coachella 2009 in Palm Springs, I’ll upload pics soon!
This was my first time at Coachella. For everyone who’s never experienced it before, the Coachella event is set up on a gigantic field, with 6 concert stages spread around, and installation art in between the venues. It was burning hot but I still had fun walking from shade to shade checking out the different stages and getting drinks until the sun started going down. Most of the art installations had some kind of glowing lighting element to them, so seeing them all come to life once it got dark was pretty cool.

there was a band playing inside this dome near the entrance to the field. but the dome was just to fool nearby birds, so it didn't have any panels for shade.

This was the little town in the middle of the field called "The Do Lab". At night it was the area that had the strongest weed smell.

gabrielle really liked this guy

and she really wanted a picture with that weird guy in it

i couldn't resist either

one of the art installations. this one was a giant flower vase covered in mirrors and tile

it took so many tries to get this picture

the giant metal flowers inside the vase

gabrielle's favorite animal: a polar bear. he must have been super sweaty in there

one of the side stages

we stopped to rest inside a tent stage. not sure who was playing at the time, they never really announced anything and there was nowhere to find a schedule.

a cute panda bear recycling bin

ahhh these fans shot out mist

one of the installation artworks, this one also shot out mist in addition to lighting up. it was made out of hula hoops.

those little lights would move up and down on their own

the techno stage

A giant flaming snake. The flame jets were controlled by buttons in the middle that anyone could press.

It must have used up a ton of gas. People were jamming the buttons nonstop once it started getting cold.

of course we had to pose with the flaming snake

The sun tower at night. I think it only looks like a sun from the sky.

a view from under the center of the tower

there was also a double tesla coil

it was hard to capture the lightning

This was the drinking area at night.
Getting out of the parking lot after the show was a nightmare! Someone had the smart idea of closing half of the entrances to improve the flow of traffic, but with 10,000 cars trying to get it out it instantly became total gridlock, with a ton of people super angry. There probably would have been fights, if everyone wasn’t dead tired already from being at the concert all day.
At about midnight when we were trying to leave, we discovered that the entrance we came in through was now locked. Everyone in our parking lot was trapped for about an hour just sitting in their cars not moving, until a bunch of guys started trying to break the lock with a brick. After that didn’t work, they started shaking the door to try to break it down! Somehow they managed to break one side of the door off its hinges, enough for a few cars to start filtering through. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long thanks to the police, who came and reclosed the gate. (i was able move my car up about 20 feet during this time)
